Youth and energy

18 April 2011: Dalston’s Arcola Theatre is urging teachers and pupils to get involved in its Energy For Schools programme.
The Arcola – which aims to become Britain’s first carbon neutral theatre – officially launched the programme during Climate Week from 21-27 March. Over 150 young people from across London got a chance to find out more about the science behind living greener lifestyles in a fun and interactive way. Pupils from Clapton Girls’ Technology College were among those taking part in activities over the week.
Arcola is aiming to offer the programme to more than 1,000 children over the next 12 months. Further information on Hackney’s website.

Brixton Low Carbon Zone Green Business Project

14 April 2011: Carbon Descent are working with Lambeth Council to deliver energy audits to businesses in the Brixton area. The aim of the Brixton Low Carbon Zone Green Business Project is to involve every business within the Zone in carbon reduction to help realise the objective of a 20.12% carbon reduction by 2012. 13 April 2011: Letter from Minister for Energy, Greg Barker, to Chief Executives of Councils in England, on sharing information on greenhouse gas emissions from Local Authority own estate and operations. Millions to fund street lighting in Croydon and Lewisham

Islington Housing Scheme Wins Environmental Award

13 April 2011: Islington Council has become the winner of a national award for the second year in a row in recognition of their work to help reduce the carbon footprint and energy costs of fuel poor households in the area. The project, IssyClad, is the largest internal solid wall insulation programme carried out in the UK.  Read more on National Energy Action’s website.

Homes to be insulated around the Olympic’s site
