Islington Tender for DE scheme

4 March 2011: Islington Council invites suitable expressions of interest from suppliers to design and build a new Energy Centre with a gas engine CHP plant and a District Heating (DH) network providing a  heating supply to three existing residential estates and leisure facilities owned by Islington Council. Identifying sustainable energy options for your area

15 February 2011: Local authorities are exploring opportunities and starting energy generation projects across the UK. With the right to sell electricity and set up energy companies, local authorities can earn money through financial incentives such as the feed-in tariffs and the renewable heat incentive. Renewable energy is an investment opportunity for local government. This Local Government Group publication highlights examples of councils and communities that are leading on energy generation. It explains what they did to start and fund energy projects and the benefits these projects have brought to their area and includes examples from Tower Hamlets, Islington and the City of London.

Negotiations stall on Elephant and Castle’s MUSCo plans

8 February 2011: Southwark councillors have approved a proposal to call off negotiations with Dalkia to establish a mutli-utility services company (MUSCo) to provide provide locally generated heat, cooling, electricity and communications for the thousands of additional homes and businesses planned for the Elephant & Castle area.
